Nyeri.. The leading Giant

Nyeri people, we have a responsibility to erase the notion that 'Nyeri is a sleeping giant,' don't you agree? One thing for sure is that the phrase is just a creation of the media but guess what people, we got to deal with it. But I like the phrase for one reason. Whoever came up with it acknowledged that Nyeri is a giant. To me, the rest doesn't matter. 

A giant is a giant, whether sleeping or standing. And without this giant Kenya can never be where it is. 

We are the giant and for a number of reasons and good reasons for that matter.

Coffee, tea, dairy industry, human resource, transport name it people, but that is Nyeri for you. 

It is about time we stand up and take our position as the leading county and prove that yes we are the giant.

And the only way to achieve this is by propagating peace, electing good leaders, working hard and being innovative. It is about time that we think inwardly and employ our very own youths in all sectors, road construction, tea picking, coffee picking  and even in matatu industry. 

In our Nyeri Yetu Facebook account, we once had a debate of why our youths in the Diaspora are reluctant of investing here at home. The government is doing everything possible to ensure security for its people. 

My word for the people in the Diaspora is, this place is better and safe for investing. In Swahili we say, "Karibuni." Come and lets join hands to grow our home after all, East or West home is the best.

To our local youths, lets be focused and be innovative rather than waiting for help from politicians. The days of "falling manna" are no more. 

A friend posted a rhetorical question on our Facebook wall asking "How can someone look for job for a year having left tens of underutilized land in the village?" and I thought, this is the core problem and the reason why we have so many hopeless youths in our urban areas.

How about joining as a group and leasing out a land out there in Kieni where within three months, you are assured of a good onion harvest? Young people, wake up and remember, time wasted is never recovered.

Nyeri needs you to grow. We are the leading giant.
