Easter brings a good market tide in Nyeri
Easter holiday is bringing good times for food merchants in
Nyeri as they intentionally lure diners with an array of delicacies moderately spiced
up to sneak in a taste of modernity while maintaining heritage.
Inside a local hotel |
Chefs are nowadays at liberty of displaying their expertise
in adjusting their culinary prowess to welcome and satisfy the visitors and
many children on holiday but more importantly to make all feel at home.
A local food and beverages manager from one of the major
hotels in Nyeri disclosed that menus have been reviewed to cater for the rising
domestic market.
The kitchen rules in many restaurants are usually amended to
almost match with those of home cooking but with professional mix of
ingredients.
Roasting chicken |
The menus are usually kept away and services extended outside
the premises especially for those restaurants with vast compounds just to
create a feeling of garden party.
The aroma of barbecued meat locally known as ‘nyama choma’
from local meat places sparingly sprinkled salt and spices with Rosemary herb
twigs dominates the atmosphere and for avoidance of doubts, nothing goes to
waste from a goat.

Chefs creatively make all sort of products including chopped
meat on sticks, meat samomas and minced meatballs.

Traditional cuisine from the common staple ingredients are
also in plenty are this season not
forgetting delicious traditional beverages like porridge made from finger
millet or fermented sifted sorghum flour. As a matter of fact, some cafes’ in
the town are exclusively serving traditional diets.
A variety of fruits. |
To the local farmers, the season brings a good market tide as
everyone shop for fresh produce either from the markets or directly from the
farms.

by its friendly and peaceful people has made the town
an all-season favorite getaway and
holiday destination.
The town's architectural timeline dates back to early 1900s and is a perfect blend of Italian, Asian, British styles with modern glass-walled business centers rising in the virgin skyline. From all the corners, infrastructural growth is luxuriant with many investors bidding for space to develop the town.
In maintenance with the rich heritage, some of the old buildings have been gazetted by the National Museums of Kenya to protect their original style. The Ruring'u museums, Pax tu- the last home of scouts movement founder Lord Powel, the White Rhino, Osman Allu buildings are just but some of the historical and tourist attractions.

The town boasts of a range of middle and high-class hotels and restaurants that are evenly spread and serving not only local delicacies but even a variety of international cuisines to make everyone feel at home. One of its unrivaled advantages is that it is from the surrounding farms making freshness and quality the least of concerns of the local food places.

One will enjoy the distinctive coffee aroma naturally found in the town, either from local cafes and restaurants, or during a romantic walk down the street.
The
distinctively natural Coffee aroma
in the town not only oozes from the
local cafes' and restaurants' coffee makers but also
from surrounding coffee plantations as it is being harvested or
milled. One can very well just enjoy the
experience during a morning jog or a romantic
evening walk.

Being in the highlands, Nyeri town has a conducive climate that is ideal
for maintaining attractive flower gardens and lawns making the town attractive
and eye-catching. Not forgetting patches of
manmade and natural forests that offer suitable sites for nature trails and bush dinners. Bird watchers and nature

Evidently Nyeri town is on the
fast lane of development as top shopping supermarkets and malls are stepping their feet in the Nyeri, which has a population of about 50,000 people.
The town is well accessible by a network of tarmac roads from all directions. To the south-west is the main Nyeri-Nairobi highway that flow to join the opposite side to Nyeri-Nyahururu and Nyeri-Nanyuki highways. Traffic jam has never been a problem in the town and so is the parking even around the major shopping areas.

CAREER EXPO IN NYERI
The County Government of
Nyeri, in collaboration with County Investors Exhibitions and NuruPe Events and
P.R have organized the Nyeri County
Education Expo.
The expo is set to take place
from 26th-28th March, 2015 at Kamukunji Grounds in Nyeri
town.
This forum is a first of its
kind in Nyeri, and will bring together universities, colleges and training
stakeholders to display their products and services for a period of three days.
The expo comes at a timely period;
after the release of the 2014 KCSE results when candidates and their parents
will be looking at what options they have when it comes to higher education. It
also targets youth and young professionals, who may be looking to advance their
studies.
It is free of charge for all
attendants.
The expo is a huge milestone
in Nyeri County, and is set to boost the confidence of the education and
training sector in the county.
The main objective of the
expo is to provide a forum where students and parents get information about
several different colleges at once. It also seeks to provide the young people
with career guidance opportunities.
About 15,000 students sat
their KCSE last year from Nyeri County alone. The Nyeri County Education Expo
will therefore provide a ready market for tertiary institutions through these
candidates and their parents. .
